Dear DLMS Community,

In this season of gratitude, I would like to take a moment to thank all of you for your contributions to Dual Language Middle School. As a community, our students, family and staff all work together to celebrate our accomplishments, work through challenges, and prepare our students for the world that awaits them. Thank you for your partnership in this work.

It is my great pleasure to share some exciting news with all of you. For the second year in a row, our School Quality Snapshot, published by the New York City Department of Education based on student test scores, student attendance, school survey results and more, shows that DLMS earned full credit in all 7 of the scored areas. This is a true testament to the work put in by all members of our community. It takes a team effort to help students succeed, and it is heartening to see our collective efforts rewarded by such a public measure.

I would also like to take a few moments to send a few important reminders/new items, as well as to share the December calendar with you:

  • Due to the holiday, all after-school programs are cancelled tomorrow. All students will be dismissed at 2:35. Due to the parade festivities in the neighborhood, students will be dismissed on 77th Street instead of Columbus Avenue.

  • As the temperatures become cooler, please remember to send students to school with proper outdoor gear. Unless it is raining or snowing, students will go outside for recess on a daily basis. Our Lost and Found is located in the main office if students have brought jackets or other items to school that now seem to be missing. Items in the Lost and Found after December will be donated. Students should also bring water bottles to school on a daily basis so they can stay hydrated during class.

  • In December, our Parent Teacher Association and School Leadership Team are working together on a clothing drive. If you would like to donate any clothing items, please bring them to the main office or Ms. Rojas' office.

  • We have a number of exciting events for family members during the month of December. On the 10th, our Computer Science Classes are offering Technology 101 and Introduction to Coding for Parents at 2:45. We have Student-led Conferences on the 12th. Our annual Winter Dance Showcase will be on the 19th at 9:30 am, followed by a 7th Grade Parent Meeting about the high school application process.

If you have questions about any of these events or other issues, please don't hesitate to reach out.

With gratitude,

Ms. Jelinek
